    In nanopore sensing, voltage drives analyte molecules through a nanopore in a membrane. The ionic flow through the nanopore is temporarily blocked by various analytes to a different level. In turn, by measuring these differences in the ionic current, the identities of analytes can be obtained. By integrating approaches from molecular biology, chemistry and biophysics, our group is developing novel nanopore sensors based on E. coli outer membrane protein G and toxin ClyA. Potential applications range from detection of small chemical molecule, disease-rated biomarkers to ultra-fast DNA sequencing.
